Testing of external IT infrastructures with large IP networks

We regularly receive customer inquiries who would like to have their publicly accessible IT checked for vulnerabilities. Basically, the external IP addresses of the customer must be scanned for open ports to determine the attack surface" The required time for the scan to complete correlates with the number of IP addresses.

Especially for customers having hundreds of IPs and more, a complete TCP and UDP port scan can take several days to weeks despite multithreading and time tuning. In such cases, in consultation with our clients, we carry out the port scans before the actual penetration test, as we do not want to charge our pentester for waiting for scan completion - especially since the manual time required to carry out port scans can be neglected.
